Why should we share what we have with others?
Hinduism teaches that we must look after our families and members of our community and society. God is in us as well as in everyone, so helping others is the same as helping ourselves. We must not ignore the poor people of the world. We have to do our best to help them in every way.
Children born in rich families in rich countries have lots of things to eat, many toys to play with, and many clothes to wear. Many children born in poor countries do not have enough food to eat, or enough clothes to wear Many of these poor people do not even have clean water to drink. Many of these children do not get an opportunity to go to school to become educated. Often they are made to go to work even though they are just children.
Imagine two boys going to a party where they are given a lovely chocolate cake to share, Suppose one of the boys is a big bully and decides to eat the chocolate cake all by himself, and only gives crumbs to the other boy. Will that be fair? The big bully will scoff down the whole chocolate cake and feel sick, while the other boy will go home feeling hungry. We must not allow this to happen, but this is already happening in the world today. Some of the richer countries act like big bullies. They buy goods and services from the poorer countries without paying them a fair price.
Religion teaches us to share what we have with others. It tells us not to be greedy or bully people who are less fortunate than us.
